(Tentative Translation)

>> 日本語

I would like to express my sincere congratulations on this occasion of reaching the stage of hosting the Women?fs Global Economy Conference 2005.

Japan, China and Korea, with history of profound exchange from ancient times, are now recognized for stimulating world development on deepened interdependence. To further enhance the attractiveness that our region presents in Asia and to the world, it is crucial for us to advance deepened trilateral cooperation by demonstrating our ability to exchange in various fields within our region.

Leaders from Japan, China and Korea have already held trilateral summit meetings every year since 1999. In order to develop amicable and cooperative relations in view of our region?fs future, we have exchanged candid views, at our summit talks, ranging from trilateral corporation in broad areas that include investment, FTA, energy, tourism, the environment, and monetary / exchange issues, to regional cooperation in East Asia and moreover the regional / international situation.

It is essential that Japan, China and Korea exchange at various levels of society to learn from each other. As women around the world are searching for new lifestyles, female leaders from our region meeting together to exchange frank views to provide stimulus and encouragement to each other is of great significance. I am confident that this conference, hosted in our ancient capital of Kyoto which embodies Japan?fs cultural identity by keeping its individuality and the history of our trilateral exchange, will be both successful and beneficial to this purpose.

To conclude, I wish to express due respect to all members of the conference organizing committee and the secretariat for their contribution in hosting this conference and hope for active participation from all female leaders. I would like to advise all participants who have traveled from China and Korea to enjoy Japan to the fullest on this excellent occasion.

Junichiro Koizumi,
The Prime Minister of Japan
